Video Game New Releases April 25th 2017

Hello and Welcome to Parents Guide 2 Games. The games on this list are coming out the week of April 25th 2017.
Batman: Arkham VR
(Rift, Oculus, Vive)

This is a VR puzzle game in which players assume the role of Batman as he investigates a brutal murder. From a first-person perspective, players explore Gotham City, solve puzzles, interrogate criminals, and examine crime scenes for clues. In a handful of sequences, players can view/reconstruct acts of violence: a thief shooting a man and woman at close range; a video of a restrained character shot in the head; a character getting his neck snapped. A handful of scenes depict blood on characters' bodies and on the walls of some areas. One protracted sequence takes place in a morgue, in which players make close-up examinations of realistic-looking corpses; some of the corpses are depicted with open wounds, severe bruises and burns, and lacerations across their bodies.

Dragon Quest Heroes II
(PS4, PC)
Rating: Teen

This is an action/role-playing game in which players control a group of fighters trying to stop a demon from starting a war. From a third-person perspective, players explore towns, complete quests, and use swords and magic attacks to destroy dozens of fantastical enemy monsters. Battles are highlighted by impact sounds, light effects, and brief cries of pain. One enemy is called “Bloody Hand,” and is depicted as a disembodied hand dripping with red slime-like blood. Some female characters wear low-cut tops that expose moderate amounts of cleavage; during one cutscene the camera lingers on a female character's bikini-clad chest while she complains of being cold.

Outlast 2
(PS4, Xbox One)
Rating: Mature
You are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch. You’re following a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe. The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.

Puyo Puyo Tetris

(Switch, PS4)
Rating: Everyone 10 and up

This is a puzzle game in which players battle others by lining up blocks and matching small creatures called Puyos. Players earn points and progress through battles by clearing their areas of blocks/lines, and Puyos. When players create lines and matches of Puyos, short animations depict opponents being conked on the head by falling objects and emitting short yelps. The game includes some suggestive material and innuendo in the dialogue.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3

(PS4, Xbox One, PC)

This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of Jon North, an elite military sniper involved in covert operations in Eastern Europe. Players traverse an open-world environment, engage in infiltration, and use sniper rifles, machine guns, and pistols to kill human enemies. Players can also perform melee kills to eliminate enemy soldiers discretely. Successful headshots trigger slow-motion tracking shots of the bullet as it hits the target; enemies' heads are sometimes depicted bursting into pieces. Blood is frequently depicted as enemies are shot, and some areas contain large bloodstains amid corpses. Cutscenes depict additional acts of violence: a bound man stabbed in the hand during an interrogation; a man shot point blank in the head. Players also have the ability kills civilians with weapons and/or run them over with vehicles, though these acts are not encouraged. The game contains references to sexual material: dialogue about prostitution; a brothel with a pole dancer performing on stage; a woman pushing a man down as she kneels between his legs. Drugs are also referenced in the text and dialogue. Swear words are heard in dialogue.

Syberia 3

This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of a woman on a journey through Eastern Europe. Players explore environments, solve puzzles and riddles, and interact with characters to influence the progression of the story. Some interactions lead to brief depictions of violence: a character running from armed assailants; a character shooting a giant squid with a shotgun. Several sequences depict a character stumbling around drunk, consuming alcohol with slurred speech. Swear words is heard in the dialogue.

What Remains of Edith Finch

What Remains of Edith Finch is a collection of strange tales about a family in Washington state. As Edith, you’ll explore the colossal Finch house, searching for stories as she explores her family history and tries to figure out why she's the last one in her family left alive.



Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III
(PC)
Rating: Mature
Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Violence
This is a real time strategy game in which players control an elite strike force that battles humans, aliens, and robots in different interplanetary campaigns. Battles are viewed from an overhead perspective as soldiers use weapons and employ hand-to-hand combat to kill enemy units. Red blood spray is sometimes depicted when soldiers and enemies are shot. Most attacks are accompanied by cries of pain, while some attacks can cause soldiers' limbs to fly off and remain scattered on the environment.

Little Nightmares
(PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Rating: Teen
Content Descriptors: Blood, Violence
This is an adventure platformer in which players assume the role of Six, a girl who must escape a nightmarish world called the Maw. As players traverse the environment, they can run, jump, climb, and sneak around to avoid leaches and corrupted souls. Getting caught usually results in the Six's death: corrupted souls eating her whole; a corrupted chef putting her inside an oven/pot; leeches strangling Six to death. One sequence depicts a pool of blood around a fallen boss after Six attacks her out of hunger. A hanging corpse and various blood stains are also depicted in some environments.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
(Switch)
Rating: Everyone
Content Descriptors: Comic Mischief
This is a kart-racing game in which players compete with characters from the Mario universe. As players race against other drivers, they can use whimsical power-ups to impede opponents' progress and knock enemies off the tracks. Colorful explosions and dizzy stars accompany the action. Some events allow players to toss "cartoony" bombs at opponents in order to knock them out of the event.

Portal Knights
(PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Rating: Everyone 10 and up
Content Descriptors: Fantasy Violence
This is an action role-playing game in which players explore randomly-generated islands and battle enemies in order to level up. Characters use swords, arrows, and magic spells to battle stylized, fantastical creatures in real-time tactical combat. Combat is highlighted by "cartoony" explosions, impact sounds, and light effects.

Guardians of the Galaxy
(PS4, Xbox One, PC)

This is an action game, based on the Guardians of the Galaxy universe, in which players assume the role of Peter Quill on a quest to retrieve a mysterious relic. Players can engage in various action sequences that require timed button presses to successfully punch, slash, or shoot enemies. Cutscenes depict additional acts of violence: a character shot in the chest with a laser blast; a villain breaking a character's neck; a character stabbed in the chest with a spear. During the course of the game, characters are depicted passed out and hung over after drinking alcohol at a bar. Swear word are heard in the dialogue.

The Silver Case
(PS4, PC)

This is an adventure game/visual novel in which players assume the role of a detective trying to solve a mystery involving a serial killer. As players explore urban dungeon-like areas, they make dialogue choices and watch cutscenes that further the story. A handful of cutscenes depict characters being shot or lying in pools of blood; one scene depicts a woman jumping off a building. The game contains some sexual material: candid video footage of a woman in her apartment as chatroom text reads “she's got nice legs,” “I'm gonna bust my nut,” and “What a closeup.” In-game text also mentions sexually provocative videos and references sexual assault. Swear words appear in the game.
Micro Machines: World Series
(PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Micro Machines is a top-down racing game: players observe races from above. Players race in environments such as breakfast and pool tables, work desks, and treehouses, driving toy vehicles such as powerboats, helicopters, formula one cars, and tanks that can shoot other racers. Courses have a predefined path that racers must follow: if a player leaves the defined route for too long they are sent back to the track. Many have obstacles such as cereal boxes on breakfast tables, and pencil sharpeners on desks.



ATV Renegades
(PS4, Xbox One)
Rating: Everyone
Content Descriptors: Mild Lyrics
This is a racing game in which players can drive ATV's in four types of race events. Players earn points for performing tricks and completing tracks with the best race times. Accompanying song lyrics sometimes contain references to violence and alcohol.

Persona 5
(PS4, PS3)

This is a role-playing game in which players assume the role of a high-school student who enters an alternate world and uses special powers to change the hearts of people in the real world. As players explore themed areas of the “Metaverse,” they engage in turn-based combat against fantastical creatures. Characters use blades, pipes, firearms, and Personas to defeat enemies; battles are highlighted by light effects, impact sounds, and cries of pain. Some cutscenes depict characters ripping masks off their faces as blood sprays. One cutscene depicts a man shooting another character in the head at close range; blood is shown pooling on the floor and splattering the victim's clothes. Several female monsters/Personas are depicted with exposed breasts, and a handful of creatures have phallic-shaped heads, torsos, or appendages. Various Personas have sexual characteristics that are described in text;dialogue also includes sexual references. Drug smuggling for the mafia is briefly discussed during a side quest. Swear words appear in the dialogue



Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition

This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of a space pirate who must escape a planet populated by mutant cannibals. Players use futuristic machine guns, revolvers, shotguns, and assault rifles to perform over-the-top kills that dismember and decapitate foes. Enemies emit large sprays of blood when killed. Specialty kills represent the most intense instances of violence: enemies can be dismembered with explosives, impaled on spikes, and drilled into walls. During the course of the game, players can consume alcohol and kill enemies in order to receive an Intoxicated Skillshot; the screen turns blurry during these sequences. The dialogue contains numerous jokes and comments that reference sexual acts, venereal diseases, and having sex with one's mother. The names of some Skillshots are infused with sexual innuendo ; one Skillshot allows players to shoot at enemies' exposed buttocks. Swear words can be heard in dialogue.

Will you strategically position your army around the map, go out like a spellcasting maniac, or utilize your environment to gain a tactical advantage?

LEGO City Undercover
(PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch)

In this open-world adventure game, players assume the role of Lego-police officer Chase McCain as he goes undercover to capture a criminal. Players explore Lego City's open-world environment, investigate crime scenes, and apprehend criminals to complete mission objectives. Players use an assortment of "cartoony" firearms  to stun enemies or douse them in color; players can also grab or throw enemies to the ground in hand-to-hand combat. In some driving sequences, players can slam into fleeing vehicles, causing them to break apart into Lego pieces. A handful of sequences depict slapstick-style and bathroom humor: characters emitting flatulence; bird droppings falling on a character's head; a character getting kicked in the crotch.
