Hello
and Welcome to Parents guide to games. The games on this list are
coming out the week of January 24th
2017.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
(PS4)
Rating: Everyone 10 and up
Content Descriptors: Fantasy Violence, Mild Language
This is a
compilation of action role-playing games in which players assume the
roles of young warriors traveling through fantastical worlds to stop
the spread of darkness. Players use giant key-shaped swords and magic
attacks to defeat Dream Eaters, classic Disney villains, and other
creatures (e.g., dragons, imps, slimes) in melee-style combat.
Battles are accompanied by light effects, cries of pain, and impact
sounds; enemies disappear into colorful orbs and particles when
defeated. A handful of sequences allow players to throw projectiles
at other characters from a first-person perspective. Some cutscenes
depict human characters struck and/or wounded by magical swords and
explosions. The word “hell” appears in the dialogue.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Tales of Berseria
(PS4, PC)
Rating: Teen
Content
Descriptors: Blood, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Partial
Nudity, Use of Alcohol, Violence
This is a
role-playing game in which players assume the role of Velvet Crowe, a
warrior on a quest for vengeance against an evil lord. As players
explore towns and fields, they can interact and recruit additional
characters to help battle enemy soldiers and fantastical creatures
(e.g., dragons, werewolves, lizard men) in melee-style combat.
Players use swords, lances, pistols, and magic spells to defeat
enemies. Battles are frenetic, highlighted by impact sounds and cries
of pain. Cutscenes also show acts of violence: a man impaled with a
sword; a man repeatedly shooting himself in the head. Some sequences
depict blood stains on characters' bodies and/or clothing. The game
contains some suggestive material: female characters and creatures
depicted partially nude (no genitalia or nipples are seen);
suggestive references in the dialogue (e.g., “You mean it feels
good to get whipped,” “Your butt is a bit bulky,” and “Eating
lots of vegetables will give you bazongas”). During the course of
the game, some characters are depicted drinking alcohol, slurring
their speech, and discussing drinking (e.g., "If you guys are
going to have a drinking contest, you're going to need some snacks to
go with all that alcohol, right?"). The words “a*s” and
“bastard” appear in dialogue.
Yakuza 0
Rating: Mature
Content Descriptors: Blood, Intense Violence, Sexual Content, Strong Language, Use of Alcohol
This is an open-world action game in which players assume the roles of Japanese gangsters involved in the Yakuza underworld. As players explore various districts and follow the storyline, they engage in missions that often involve fistfights with thugs or rival gang members; characters can also use weapons such as bats during frenetic combat sequences. Players can perform scripted moves after building enough meter; these Heat Actions depict characters breaking necks, slamming heads into walls, and shoving bats inside enemies' mouths. Violence is often accompanied by gunfire, impact sounds, screams of pain, and blood-splatter effects. Cutscenes depict intense acts of violence: characters shot in the head; a bound man tortured with a sledgehammer; a character impaled by spikes. The game contains some sexual content: men groping women's breasts in a night club; a man guiding a woman's hand over his crotch. Players can also opt to visit parlors where they can flirt with women over the phone: close-up images of a bikini-clad woman are shown in the background. During the course of the game, players can order and drink whiskey at a bar—a status icon indicates drunkenness. Another sequence allows players' character to engage in a game of darts after consuming alcohol, as the screen blurs and shakes during play. Swear words appear in the dialogue.
