Video Game New Releases January 23rd 2018


Hello and Welcome to Parents Guide 2 Games. Here are the games coming out the week of January 23rd 2018.

Lost Sphear
(Switch, PS4, PC)

Rating: Everyone 10 and up

Content Descriptors: Fantasy Violence, Language

This is a role-playing game in which players assist heroes on a quest to restore a forgotten world. From a 3/4-overhead perspective, players use blades, crossbows, and magic spells to battle human enemies and fantastical creatures in turn-based combat; enemies generally disappear amid flashes of light when defeated. Boss battles involve more protracted combat and may be accompanied by mild explosions and cries of pain. Swear words appear in the dialogue.

The Inpatient 

(PSVR)

Rating: Mature

Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Strong Language, Violence

This is a VR horror game in which players assume the role of an amnesiac patient in an asylum. As players uncover clues to their identity and the reason for their institutionalization, they can interact with characters and make choices that affect the outcome of the story. Several scenes depict characters being attacked and mauled by a monster or shot by guards. In one sequence, a guard is seen shooting a wounded woman as she pleads for mercy. Victims/corpses are depicted with bloodstained clothing, and one room contains severed hands. Swear words appear in the dialogue.

Iconoclasts

Rating: Teen

Join renegade mechanic Robin and uncover the secrets of a dying planet. Explore a big world filled with intricate puzzles, interesting characters and menacing bosses in a beautiful platform adventure that tells a personal story about faith, purpose and the challenge of helping people.

Dragon Ball FighterZ 

(PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Rating: Teen

Content Descriptors: Cartoon Violence, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes

This is a fighting game in which players compete in three-person tag-team battles using the characters and events from the Dragon Ball universe. Characters punch and kick each other while also using blasts/beams/balls of energy to defeat opponents. Battles can be fast-paced and frenetic, with frequent impact sounds, light effects, and cries of pain. Cutscenes also depict instances of violence. The game contains some suggestive material: a female character wearing a low-cut top that reveals large amounts of cleavage; character descriptions/tags. Swear words appear in the dialogue.

Monster Hunter: World 

(PS4, Xbox One)

Rating: Teen

Content Descriptors: Blood, Mild Language, Use of Alcohol, Violence

This is a role-playing game in which players assume the role of hunters as they explore and hunt for monsters in the New World. As players traverse various environments, they engage in quests and use swords, lances, and bow guns to hunt and kill their quarry. Battles are frenetic and accompanied by sword slashes, impact sounds, and large explosions. Some areas depict mass monster graves containing large pools of blood and blood-stained bones. In one of the game's environments, players' character may sit down at a table and drink mugs of beer; if players continue to consume alcohol, a drunk animation will appear. The words pissed off appear in the dialogue.
