Video Game New Releases 1/29/19


Hello and Welcome to Parents Guide 2 Games. Here are the games coming out the week of January 29th 2019.


Genesis Alpha One 


(PS4, Xbox One, PC )

Rating: Mature

Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Language, Violence

This is a first-person shooter/strategy game in which players assume the role of a starship captain tasked with saving humanity in the near future. Players can explore uncharted space, build and manage a vessel, clone creatures, and fight off attacking aliens. Players use futuristic firearms to shoot aliens during combat sequences. Combat is highlighted by gunfire, cries/groans of pain, and blood-splatter effects. Some aliens explode into chunks of flesh or harvestable material; a handful of humanoid-shaped aliens can be dismembered with certain weapons. Science labs are occasionally depicted with large bloodstains on and around operating tables. Swear words appear in the dialogue.


Kingdom Hearts III 


(PS4, Xbox One)

Rating: Everyone 10 and up

Content Descriptors: Alcohol Reference, Fantasy Violence

This is an action role-playing game in which players follow Sora and his friends as they battle an evil force. From a third-person perspective, players explore Disney-themed worlds, gain cartoon-character allies, and battle shadowy creatures along the way. Players use key-shaped swords, whimsical magic attacks, and special powers/attack moves to defeat enemies in frenetic combat. Some sequences allow players to pilot robots or small ships that shoot projectiles at enemies from a first-person perspective. A handful of cutscenes depict off-screen stabbings/impaling of protagonist characters.

Video Game New Releases 1/22/19


Hello and Welcome to Parents Guide 2 Games. Here is the game coming out the week of January 22nd 2019.


Resident Evil 2 


(PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Rating: Mature

Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language

This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the roles of a policeman and/or a college student battling a zombie outbreak in the fictional Raccoon City. From a third-person perspective, players explore environments and use pistols, shotguns, tasers, explosives, and flamethrowers to kill mutant creatures and zombies. Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large blood-splatter effects. Cutscenes also depict instances of intense violence and gore: a character's throat ripped out by a mutant's teeth; a man's body cut in half, leaving entrails dangling from his torso; a man's head crushed by a zombie's hands. Some areas also depict mutilated corpses/zombies with exposed organs and viscera. Swear words are heard in the dialogue.

Onimusha: Warlords 


(PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)

This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a samurai battling an undead army. From a third-person perspective, players explore environments and battle enemy skeletons, monsters, and demons. Characters use swords, axes, clubs, and rifles to attack and kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by cries of pain and frequent blood-splatter effects. Some cutscenes depict further instances of violence and/or gore: soldiers impaled by lances during battle; a warlord shot through the neck with an arrow; a demon's tentacle/appendage sliced in half by a sword; a character slitting an enemy's throat from behind.


Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

This is a flight combat simulator in which players follow the story of a young prisoner, while reenacting a variety of combat missions. From a third-person perspective, players control planes as they engage in aerial dogfights, assault ground targets (e.g., anti-aircraft guns, oil fields, silos), and destroy enemy bases. Players use missiles, machine guns, and bombs to destroy targets in realistic, frenetic combat. Battles are highlighted by frequent gunfire, radio chatter, and explosions. One cutscene briefly depicts a pilot with small amounts of blood splattered on her helmet after a crash. Swear words appear in the dialogue.


Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes

Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Crude Humor, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Strong Language

In this action game, players assume the role of an assassin who fights his way through a video game. Players use a retractable katana blade to slash, chop, impale, and dismember human enemies. Though the art style is cell-shaded and highly stylized, the violence can become intense: thugs are sliced in half as blood gushes from wounds; enemies are beheaded as blood shoots from necks in exaggerated spurts. Cutscenes also depict over-the-top instances of violence. During the course of the game, players can encounter objects/references that are sexual in nature. Bathroom humor includes a "save progress" screen that depicts the main character unzipping his pants and sitting on a toilet. Swear words can be heard in the dialogue.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story 


(3DS)

Rating: Everyone

Content Descriptors: Mild Cartoon Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes

This is an action role-playing game in which players assume the role of Mario and Luigi on a quest to help a princess retrieve her voice. From a 3/4 overhead-perspective, players traverse a fantasy kingdom, solve puzzles, and engage in turn-based combat against enemy creatures. Players select various attack moves from a menu to defeat enemies; attacks depict "cartoony" characters stomping on enemies' heads or whacking them with mallets. Enemies generally disappear amid bursts of colorful lights and coins. One female creature wears an outfit that exposes moderate amounts of cleavage.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

This is an action platformer in which players must rescue Princess Peach from Bowser and his minions. As players navigate Mario and Luigi through colorful levels, they can hop on enemies' heads or use various power-ups (e.g., growth mushrooms, fire/ice flowers, invincibility stars) to defeat them. Most characters react to damage with blinking effects and comical yelps.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition 


(PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)

Rating: Teen

Content Descriptors: Alcohol Reference, Blood, Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, Simulated Gambling, Suggestive Themes

This is a role-playing game in which players help a group of fighters retrieve a stolen artifact. Players traverse a fantasy world, interact with characters, complete quests, and engage in melee-style combat against humans and fantastical creatures. Players use swords, knives, whips, and magic spells to defeat enemies in frenetic combat. Cutscenes depict additional instances of violence and/or blood: a character stabbed in the stomach; a man slashed with a sword, causing blood to spray out; dead wolves amid pools of blood. The game contains some suggestive material: characters wearing outfits that expose large amounts of cleavage; dialogue pertaining to breast size; scenes involving a man peeping at women bathing. Within some environments, players can engage in poker games and exchange winnings for in-game currency. Players can also enter taverns and interact with townspeople who slur their speech when ordering drinks; alcohol is also referenced in the text. Swear words are heard in the game.
