Video Game New Releases January 15th 2018

Hello and Welcome to Parents Guide 2 Games. Here are the games coming out the week of January 7th 2019.

Onimusha: Warlords

(PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)

Rating: Mature

Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Violence

This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a samurai battling an undead army. From a third-person perspective, players explore environments and battle enemy skeletons, monsters, and demons. Characters use swords, axes, clubs, and rifles to attack and kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by cries of pain and frequent blood-splatter effects. Some cutscenes depict further instances of violence and/or gore: soldiers impaled by lances during battle; a warlord shot through the neck with an arrow; a demon's tentacle/appendage sliced in half by a sword; a character slitting an enemy's throat from behind.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

(PS4, Xbox One)

Rating: Teen

Content Descriptors: Language, Mild Blood, Violence

This is a flight combat simulator in which players follow the story of a young prisoner, while reenacting a variety of combat missions. From a third-person perspective, players control planes as they engage in aerial dogfights, assault ground targets (e.g., anti-aircraft guns, oil fields, silos), and destroy enemy bases. Players use missiles, machine guns, and bombs to destroy targets in realistic, frenetic combat. Battles are highlighted by frequent gunfire, radio chatter, and explosions. One cutscene briefly depicts a pilot with small amounts of blood splattered on her helmet after a crash. Swear words appear in the dialogue.

Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes

(Switch)

Rating: Mature

Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Crude Humor, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Strong Language

In this action game, players assume the role of an assassin who fights his way through a video game. Players use a retractable katana blade to slash, chop, impale, and dismember human enemies. Though the art style is cell-shaded and highly stylized, the violence can become intense: thugs are sliced in half as blood gushes from wounds; enemies are beheaded as blood shoots from necks in exaggerated spurts. Cutscenes also depict over-the-top instances of violence. During the course of the game, players can encounter objects/references that are sexual in nature. Bathroom humor includes a "save progress" screen that depicts the main character unzipping his pants and sitting on a toilet. Swear words can be heard in the dialogue.
